Important Information for UK Users

You are most likely viewing this page because you are visiting VidLii from the UK.

Recently, the UK's Ofcom has put into effect a new regulation called the Online Safety Act. This regulation would require us to extensively monitor and collect information about our platform and our users, as well as impose a vast array of oppressive content restrictions to everyone who uses our platform. As a site run by a small team of volunteers, have neither the time nor the resources to comply with the law. We're not the only ones who have been affected by this regulation; almost all sites that allow users to post content online fall into the scope of this draconian law. The only websites have the resources necessary to comply with the law are those that are run by large companies, like Facebook, Google, and Microsoft. Even if we could comply, we have no interest in violating our users' rights to privacy and freedom of expression just because an overzealous government decides you don't have those rights.

While most Internet laws imposed by foreign governments do not affect sites operated in the United States, Ofcom has taken it upon themselves to threaten online platforms located in countries they have no jurisdiction over. We have received threats from Ofcom directly demanding information about our platform and our users, with which we will not comply. Even though we originally intended to ignore such threats, we have decided that the best course of action to avoid the site being completely blocked in the UK is to proactively block user generated content for users visiting from the UK.

Going forward, this means that users visiting from IP addresses located in the UK will be unable to view videos and other content from other users. They may still log into their accounts and view their own content, but they will not be able to see the content posted by other users.

We recommend that our UK users use a VPN to access the site through a country that isn't actively hostile toward a free and open Internet.

We also have alternative domains that may or may not be blocked by your government:

This is a decision we didn't want to make, and we apologize to everyone in the UK for the frustration it has caused. We hope that someday Ofcom will change their minds and become friendly toward an open Internet again.
